The Worshipful Company of Musicians welcomes Rustam Khanmurzin as a Yeoman Artist
Launched in 2000, the Yeomen Programme is a young artists’ scheme for musicians who have won one of WCoM awards. It supports the musicians during the vital first few years of professional practice, and allows them to share their skills and passion with the wider community through participation work.
Former Yeomen include Alfie Boe tenor, Amy Dickson saxophone, Milos Karadaglic guitar, Duncan Rock baritone, Ksenija Sidorova accordion and Ben Baker violin.
The scheme has over 150 young musicians, usually between the ages of 18 and 28. Their ‘yeomanship’ lasts five years, when the first steps towards a long lasting career are made. The Yeomen predominantly come from a classical music background (including soloists, chamber musicians, singers and ensembles), but recently we have increasingly given awards to (and accepted new Yeomen from) the jazz and contemporary music sphere.
